Haunted by waters is a photographic project I am working on to document and visually record the headwaters of the River Derwent in North Yorkshire. The river rises on Fylingdales Moor before flowing through the steep wooded valley between the Langdale Forest and Broxa Forest. It then makes its way through beautiful open countryside between Langdale End, Hackness and Mowthorpe, before entering the steep, wooded Forge Valley.
It is the secret, higher reaches upstream of Langdale End that fascinates me. The haunt of goshawks, otter and possibly pine marten.
This project is somewhat experimental: I have tried to avoid simply illustrating the landscape in order to produce a static image. Instead, I have tried to isolate elements and details in the landscape to create images which are more abstract than my previous work, with a dynamic of time and movement, and where the intention is to offer a different perspective. Working with the panoramic camera on this project has sometimes required me to spend hours in the same spot on the riverbank.
I will be delighted to receive feedback on these lastest images.
